Asattarn was created as the ambient solo project of Hungarian musician Gábor Varga in 2018. The name Asattarn is formed by combining the Sanskrit word “asat” (non-being, imperceptible, unreal) and the English word “tarn”. One possible meaning of Asattarn could be “mountain lake of non-being” (in Hungarian: “a nemlét tengerszeme”), although this is open to various interpretations. Asattarn uses analog and digital synthesizers, drone boxes, classical and electric guitars, acoustic instruments and samplers to create sometimes obscure, other times soothing, tranquil soundscapes.
